Jane Mahon Portraiture
For nearly two and a
half decades Jane Mahon has been using the canvas as a forum for
communicating the essence of the human form. Utilizing light and
space as agents of translation, the artist bridges landscapes of
17th Century Europe with contemporary subject matter in which
commanding and present figures in a characteristic large format
invite the observer in on equal ground. Mahon's talent lies in her
ability to create engaging works of diverse influence and layered
history that provide the viewer with an intimate and moving
experience.
As Jane Mahon's
daughter it has been my unending joy and honor to witness this
process manifest. The opportunity to observe the tender and
personal relationship of the artist to her subjects -be them
animate or static, tangible or ethereal- has been the greatest
gift. Through the years I have constructed in my mind a lucid
understanding of the beauty of the world as she perceives it and
for this I thank her from the depths of my soul. I offer her this
site as a gesture of my gratitude. It is also through this medium
that I am attempting to facilitate the experience of her art with
others, in hopes that they may enjoy what I have had the privilege
to witness for 24 years.
